Educational Goals

The goal of the programme is to train students so that they

  • are able to analyse topics within the area of South-Eastern Europe by taking into consideration different disciplinary perspectives,
  • understand the complexity, interaction and dynamics between legal, political, economic and cultural systems in regard to South-Eastern Europe,
  • know and are able to use adequate working methods and instruments for scientific research and application,
  • are able to apply their knowledge and scientific skills in inter- and transdisciplinary teams on complex issues, possess the relevant soft skills, such as writing, debating, conflict management, teamwork, gender sensitivity, project management.

Professional Fields: Relevance of the Programme for the Labour Market and Further Academic Study

The professional fields for which competences are developed are strongly determined by the specialisation chosen by the student, and definitely include the academic, private, public, and semi-public sector, with a special focus on the integration of knowledge and policy making in the field of South-Eastern European regional management. Occupational fields for graduates are:

  • National, regional and local governmental and non-governmental organizations
  • International organizations
  • Training and (continuing) education
  • Journalism
  • Business sector
  • Scientific research
  • Consultancy

Duration of the Programme

Students are allocated ECTS credit points for the work done, which includes both self-study and contact hours. The master’s programme comprises 120 ECTS credits, which corresponds to a minimum period of study of four semesters or two years, per the respective regulations governing the partner institutions.

Academic Degree

Students completing the Interdisciplinary Joint Master’s Programme in South-Eastern European Studies earn the degree “Master of Arts”, abbreviated MA, which is equivalent to the following degrees in the countries of the consortium:

Austria: Master of Arts (MA)
Croatia: Master of Art /mr. sc./ (in SEE studies)
Macedonia: Магистер по Политологија (Master of Arts in Political Science)
Serbia: master politikolog (mast. politik.)
